Mini Facelift Description

Changes in the mid to lower face and neck can make you appear older as skin begins to lose elasticity and the natural jawline profile softens and becomes less youthful looking.  While some people may want to reduce these signs of aging, they may not be interested in committing to a traditional facelift and the recovery it entails.  A mini facelift is a less invasive surgical procedure that can improve the appearance of the mid to lower face and the upper neck, without the downtime associated with a traditional facelift.  With the mini facelift, there are two inconspicuous incisions made around the ears, enabling Dr. Mendoza to lift and tighten the underlying facial muscles and connective tissue, while tightening and trimming excess skin.  The mini facelift is sometimes called a “Weekend Facelift” because some patients have the procedure on a Friday and are able to return to work as early as Monday or Tuesday.  Because the skin and underlying tissue is lifted upward, instead of pulled back, the mini facelift can achieve excellent, natural-looking results.  For patients interested in significant improvement without significant downtime, the mini facelift can help firm and tighten the mid and lower face, improve jawline definition, and give you a younger-looking neckline.  

Mini Facelift Procedure

With the mini facelift procedure, there’s no need for general anesthesia, and the procedure can be completed in an outpatient surgical facility in about 1-2 hours.  During the procedure, Dr. Mendoza will make an S-shaped incision extending from the sideburn, along the natural contour of the ear, around the earlobe and back to the hairline.  By following the natural contour of the ear, visible scarring is minimized.  The incisions are closed with sutures, which will dissolve on their own in 5-7 days.  You can expect some temporary bruising and swelling during the first few days after the procedure.  Dr. Mendoza will discuss specific post-operative instructions with you, but in general, most people can return to work in 3-7 days after mini facelift surgery.
