ARM LIFT/ BRACHIOPLASTY

Arm Lift Description

Loose and sagging skin in the upper arms is a concern for many people.  Skin can lose some of its elasticity as a result of the natural aging process, or after a significant weight loss. This can result in loose skin in the upper arms that sags and jiggles.  While exercise can improve muscle tone in the arms, it can’t address excess, lax skin and fatty deposits in the arms.  Many people are embarrassed by this condition and resort to hiding their arms in long sleeves.  Brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure to help sculpt and shape the arms by removing excess fat and skin in order to give you a more toned appearance.   While brachioplasty can achieve excellent results, there will be visible scars on the underside or back of the arms after surgery.

Arm Lift Procedure

Brachioplasty is usually performed in the office or in an outpatient surgical facility.  Typically, the procedure takes between 2-3 hours to complete, depending on the extent of the work that’s needed.  During the procedure, an incision will be made on the inside or back of the arms, from the underarm to the elbow.  Excess fat will be removed, and the skin will be tightened and trimmed to achieve a more sculpted appearance.  You will need to wear compression garments for 2 weeks after the surgery, and sutures will dissolve on their own.  Dr. Mendoza will see you in the office for follow-up about a week after the surgery.    Dr. Mendoza will discuss specific post-operative instructions with you, but in general, most people can return to work in 7-10 days after brachioplasty surgery.
